You are good at too many things.

That is not a compliment. It is a diagnosis, and it is why your calendar looks like that.

Sort your work in 30 minutes. Find the part only you can do. Then say no to the rest with nine scripts you can paste straight into an email.

What is inside:

  • A worksheet, not a lecture.

  • Eleven pages. You will write in most of them.

Built for leaders whose calendars are full of things they are good at.

  • You are the person everyone brings things to, and your plate shows it.

  • You run a nonprofit, a public agency team, or a People function, and Q4 is already looming.

  • You have tried a prioritization system before and it lasted about nine days.

  • You can name the thing you should hand off. You just have not said it out loud yet.

Alexis Braly James

I spent eight years as a classroom teacher, then a building administrator, then a year at the Smithsonian helping curate artifacts for the National Museum of African American History. I started Construct the Present in 2017.

Since then I have worked with the Smithsonian, the City of Portland, Metro, Multnomah County Library, Stripe, and a long list of nonprofits and public agencies. Most of what I do is help leaders get out of their own way.

This workbook is the thing I end up walking people through in the first twenty minutes of almost every engagement. So I wrote it down.
