Constructing Perspectives
A SELF-PACED COURSE FROM CONSTRUCT THE PRESENT
The way you see the world was built.
This is where you look at the blueprints.
Constructing Perspectives is a 10-module, self-paced online course that helps you examine how your worldview was constructed (by where you grew up, who raised you, what you have lived through, and what you have never had to) and expand it on purpose. Because the people who stay steady in hard conversations are not fearless. They have done this work.
You can't shift what you don't first examine.
Most of us move through the world on autopilot, noticing what we have been trained to notice and missing what we have been trained to miss. Then a hard conversation lands in our lap, and we discover our default settings were not built for it.
This course is the pause button. Ten modules of guided reflection, real-world examples, and practical tools that build the self-awareness to understand your own perspective deeply enough to genuinely engage with someone else's: at work, in your community, and at your own kitchen table.
Whether you are just starting to ask these questions or you have been doing this work for years, Constructing Perspectives gives you a structured, intentional container for it.
What You'll Learn
By the end of this self-paced course, you'll be able to:
Trace your own blueprint. Understand how your identity and lived experience shape what you notice, what you ignore, and what you center, often without realizing it.
Close the values gap. Name what you actually stand for, and spot the places where your daily choices have quietly drifted from it.
Build trust across difference. Learn what psychological safety really requires, especially in relationships and rooms where people don't share your background.
See the systems, not just the moments. Understand how power, privilege, and positionality shape your experience, and how to use whatever power you hold on purpose.
Recognize dominant norms and interrupt them. Name the unwritten rules and unconscious bias running your workplace and community, including an honest look at white supremacy culture and how its patterns show up in everyday spaces.
Sustain the change. Practice the accountability, healing, and resilience that make personal growth stick past the initial spark.

Founder
Alexis Braly James is the founder and CEO of Construct the Present, a Certified B Corp leadership development consultancy based in Portland, Oregon. She has spent her career helping leaders and organizations close the gap between the values they name and the culture people actually experience, through training, coaching, and original frameworks like See First™.
Alexis has facilitated this work with organizations ranging from credit unions and healthcare networks to land trusts, nonprofits, and public agencies. Constructing Perspectives grew out of a truth she kept seeing in every one of those rooms: the leaders who create real belonging are not the ones with the best talking points. They are the ones who have examined their own perspective honestly enough to make room for someone else's.
This course is that examination: structured, guided, and built for real life.

It is a self-examination course, and yes, that examination includes identity, power, privilege, and an honest look at how dominant culture operates. We don't dodge the hard topics; we just start where all real change starts: with you. If you're looking for compliance training, this isn't it. If you're looking to genuinely understand yourself and the people who see the world differently than you do, you're home.
-
Not at all. The course meets you where you are. The prompts work whether this is your first time asking these questions or your fifteenth year in the work. Seasoned practitioners tell us the structured reflection is exactly what their own practice was missing.
-
No. The Course tier includes printable reflection prompts and stands fully on its own. The journal (in The Bundle) deepens the experience with a dedicated, beautifully designed space for your reflections. Think of it as the difference between taking notes on scrap paper and keeping them somewhere you'll actually return to.

Please do. It's one of the best ways to experience it. The Full Kit includes a Facilitator Discussion Guide built exactly for this. For teams larger than 10, reach out to us at support@constructthepresent.com and we'll set you up.
